    Report on RJR Group/Boxill Poll November 2011

    This report presents the results of a poll conducted during October 28-November 3, 2011. It is based on a nationally representative sample of 1000 persons (45 were, however, dropped from the sample with no effect on the findings), 18 years and over and has a margin of error of +/- 4%.

    Following is a summary of the main findings of the poll.

    The sample
    The sample was equally divided between males (49%) and females (51%) and was conducted in 160 communities in all parishes island wide. This poll only targeted persons who are enumerated.

    Choosing a leader – the role of age
    When asked if age should matter in choosing a leader for a political party, almost three-quarters (74%) said ‘no’. Only 18.3% felt that age should matter in considering a person for leadership of a party. Of those who said that age should matter, most (41%) felt that older people had more experience, however about 11% said that old people could not manage the job. About 31% said that young people were more creative or had better ideas.
    In regards to choosing a leader of a political party almost half of all respondents (48%) said that that should be the job of delegates, while 28% said the public should chose the leader.
