Local governments in China will frequently provide lodging & meals for persons who are interested in learning Mandarin, and at the same time would be willing to teach English. 1. Most Chinese are learning English anyway and even some of the acknowledge that Mandarin is....difficult (to put it lightly)
2. With China's one-child policy in place after the Revolution it means China's population will experience European-style age and decline before 2050 if I remember that radio documentary correctly.
3. India's population will be younger and larger than China in the future and as a stable democracy there is little prospect of a future revolution (as might happen in communist China if the economy does not keep up with expectations and people want to vent)
4. Hindi is an Indo-European language like English so its basic structure and even some words are similar, making it easier than Mandarin.
