GEORGETOWN, Guyana (AP) — Guyana's child protection agency is pursuing custody of two boys whose parents allegedly burned their genitals and buttocks, causing disfigurement.
Agency director Ann Greene described the child abuse as the "most gruesome case" she has ever seen in the nation on South America's north-eastern shoulder.
The boys are cousins ages 5 and 6. Greene alleges that the mother of one of the children burned them repeatedly with a hot iron while the other boy's mother and father held them down at the home they share in the capital of Georgetown.
Greene asserts that the young cousins were tortured after one of their parents found the boys engaged in some form of sexual experimentation.
Police say they are questioning the mother who allegedly burned the children.
