Member of Parliament Sharon Hay-Webster will be able to say within the next couple of weeks, whether she will run as an independent or as a candidate for one of the political parties in the next general election.
The MP took her seat in Parliament on July 12 as an independent candidate after resigning as a member of the People’s National Party (PNP) June 28.
Hay-Webster said she has been discussing her future in politics with various individuals. She would not say who these individuals are.
According to the MP, since resigning, she has been open to offers. She also noted she would not be opposed to joining the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) under certain circumstances.
Hay-Webster came under pressure to resign as MP after The Gleaner published US Embassy cables, which revealed that she visited the embassy on July 31, 2009, to renounce her US citizenship only to return four days later to withdraw her application.
She has maintained that her case is different from other dual citizenship cases adjudicated in the courts
