  • Principal could face disciplinary action

    Nadisha Hunter, Gleaner Writer

Action could be taken against the principal of Windward Road Primary School, Norman Malcolm, following Tuesday's dispute with education ministry personnel, over the storage of textbooks at the school.

The dispute arose after Malcolm sent the textbooks, which were being stored at the school, to the ministry and they were later returned.

The education ministry’s permanent secretary, Audrey Sewell, said a report of the incident has been prepared and is to be submitted to the Prime Minister, who is also the Education Minister.

She said it is expected that the school board will take the necessary action, while the ministry waits for a response from the minister.

The permanent secretary said Malcolm objected to the books being at the school and on Monday left them at the Caenwood centre in Kingston.

Sewell said team returned the textbooks to the school the next day.

According to her, the principal objected and padlocked the gates preventing the team from leaving the compound.

This resulted in a show down between Malcolm and the ministry’s personnel.

The police had to be called in and subsequently stated that the principal could not lawfully block the education ministry personnel.

I'm lost on this. What is the reason why he doesn't want the text books at the school? Why not give it to the pickney them, who have none!
