    JMDA President resigns

The President of the Jamaica Medical Doctors Association (JMDA), Dr. Dayton Campbell has resigned to enter representational politics.
Dr. Campbell resigned on Monday morning and will run on the People’s National Party's ticket in North West St. Ann, the seat left vacant by former Police Commissioner, Lucius Thomas, who withdrew his candidacy earlier this month due to ill health.
Dr. Campbell will be going up against the Jamaica Labour Party's Othneil Lawrence.
Dr. Campbell told RJR News that nominations for a new JMDA President will be opened later this week.
“Because they don’t want to compromise the position of the association, I want them to remain non-political for them to be able to comment on issues of national importance without any political associations being attached to those statements. The letter of resignation will be handed in on [October 24] and nominations will open on Wednesday and the election will be held on the 8th of November,” Dr. Campbell said.
He was elected president of the association in August.
"Jamaica's future reflects its past, having attained only one per cent annual growth over 30 years whilst neighbours have grown at five per cent." (Article)
