LIME cancels "Teacha’s Pet"

It is quite relevant as it shows how you think. You have a set of predetermined beliefs and then look for confirmation in the news and stories of the day.

Jamaica is backward and so signing a controversial figure like Kartel to a reality show is evidence of this to you.

Of course when a US network signs such a person you would say it is creative marketing or some such thing.

Jamaica has enough problems to criticize without making things up where it does not exist.

What are your thoughts on including those rastafarian people and thier music in promoting Brand Jamaica? I mean these people promote the smoking of weed and other such slackness!

Yet the Tourist Board insists on including them in just about every promotion it does! How on earth will Brand Jamaica survive those lowlifes?

‘Kartel’ case again postponed

For the second day, popular entertainer Vybz Kartel did not appear before the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate Court.

One of his attorneys, Tom Tavares-Finson, said court officials informed him that the case was not placed on the list today because they had only received "a skeletal file."

There were no indication when Kartel will make his first court appearance to answer charges of murder, conspiracy to commit murder and illegal possession of firearm.
He was charged in relation to the death of businessman/promoter, Barrington Burton, otherwise called ‘Bossie’.

Kartel, whose given name is Adidja Palmer, was however taken to court this morning under heavy police guard.

He was greeted by a handful of fans who voiced their support and demanded that he be freed.

"A frame dem a frame di artiste," one woman said.

Vybz Kartel makes international headlines

It seems that deejay Vybz Kartel has received the international attention that he has long been seeking throughout his career. The deejay's most recent plight has been making international headlines on top notch entertainment websites.
Kartel was charged on Monday with murder, conspiracy to murder and possession of an illegal firearm. He was expected to appear in court on Tuesday but the case was rescheduled. A quick search on the Internet shows a number of reports on various websites posted about his plight.

Billboard.com, the noted entertainment magazine which publishes the noted Billboard Charts and music chart, posted on its website the headline 'Vybz Kartel, Jamaican Dancehall Star, Charged with Murder'. On American news station ABC.com, 'Dancehall artiste Vybz Kartel charged with murder' was also a hot topic. "Vybz Kartel Hit With Drug Charges, Murder Investigation" was the headline on BET.com and on MTV.com 'Dancehall Star Vybz Kartel Charged With Murder'. MTV.com described the artiste as an "award winning veteran dancehall artiste" who has performed songs alongside elite hip hop and R&B artistes such as Eminem, Busta Rhymes, Rihanna, and Lil Wayne among others.

MTV.com also carried a statement from Mixpak head Dre Skull, who released Kartel's most recent album Kingston Story. The statement from Dre Skull said, "Clearly, it's a tragedy that someone has been killed. I think it's important that we wait for the facts to emerge and urge a fair and thorough investigation. Vybz Kartel is an immensely talented artiste whom I deeply respect. We had been planning to shoot a music video for his next single this coming weekend, so it goes without saying that we are shocked by this news."

Even as far as Taiwan, the deejay made headlines on taiwannews.com with 'Telecom drops Vybz Kartel after murder charge'. St Kitts, Anguilla Trinidad, Guyana, and Metronews in Canada, news sources also featured the deejay, among countless others.

'Teacha's Pet' future undecided


Following LIME's withdrawal of their sponsorship of the reality show Teacha's Pet, a decision is yet to be made whether the show will be discontinued or aired without the communication giant's backing.

The STAR spoke with the producers of the show yesterday who disclosed that they are still in discussions about what decision will be made about the future of Teacha's Pet. They explained that a decision will be reached very soon.

This comes in light of LIME's announcement that they will stop airing Teacha's Pet on their LIME mobile TV. When news spread that the show's star Vybz Kartel had been arrested on Friday and charged with illegal possession of ganga, LIME immediately went in discussions with Creative Source Production, prod-ucers of the show Teacha's Pet.

The company said it would be monitoring the situation surrounding the dancehall artiste, before deciding the show's fate.

But in a statement yesterday, after the artiste was charged with murder, conspiracy to murder and illegal possession of firearm, LIME announced that it will be pulling the show from its mobile TV. The show was premiered on CVM TV at 10 p.m. on September 23, while the 'Too Hot For TV' episode was aired on LIME's Peppa channel.

In a statement yesterday, LIME said, "Due to the serious nature of the charges against Vybz Kartel, LIME has taken the decision to discontinue its broadcast of Teacha's Pet on mobile TV with immediate effect. The issue is a legal matter, which is the purview of the security forces and the courts and LIME will not comment any further at this time."

Meanwhile, Vybz Kartel did not appear in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court yesterday as scheduled. When his lawyer, Christian Tavares-Finson turned up, he was told the case would not be heard and has been rescheduled.

The dancehall entertainer, real name is Adidja Palmer, is accused of conspiring with other men to kill 27-year-old businessman Barrington Burton, otherwise called 'Bossie'. The police said Burton was murdered while he was standing with friends along Walkers Avenue in Gregory Park, St Catherine.
