Lack of succession plan is a result of a dysfunctional constitution and the so called Westminster monte trick. That said, if not Tufton then who, if not now then when. Leadership in today's world is not a function of time served, it is a matter of skill and intelligence. Sometimes I feel uneasy when I coduct lectures/conferences where the majority of the audience is much older than myself, but this is the way of a modern world. I think there should be an active draft-Tufton movement right now, and failing this, the good people of the JLP, not the useful idiots, should start a tea-party like movement within the party to get the gentleman elected to the post of PM. Call it a Blue mountain coffee movement, George William Gordon Movement, Nanny movement whatever, but get the obvious best talent in the job. Not the best head-of-garrison, or the oldest fart.
