Be nice, sickko! At least they entered. Schools like Campion find all kinda excuse why they either don't enter, or why they make early exits.

Claude McKay defeat May Day in low-scoring game <DIV class=KonaBody>

Yesterday's TVJ Schools' Challenge Quiz match was slow and lacklustre with Claude McKay emerging winners and promising to do better in their round-two match.

The Clarendon school defeated Manchester's May Day High after coming from behind to win 16-6 in the buzzer segment.

Members of the May Day team were clearly disappointed about their performance in the match, which saw them losing their lead in most of the competition.

When THE STAR tried to get the names of the students on the team one team member claimed not to remember her name while the other members said they "didn't know anything" and promptly walked away signalling that they did not want to comment about their performance.

Members of the Claude McKay team were, however, grateful and promised to work on the minutes segment of their game. But noted they could have done better but 'were nervous'.

The team was optimistic that they could make it to the finals as they sighted this as their ultimate goal this year.

Section one of the match was quite close with Claude McKay rapping up the segment with five points, while May Day High was ahead by one point.

Section two of the match was slow with "pass" being the more familiar response to questions posed to both teams who earned no point in the first minute.

In minute two, Claude McKay gained a point while May Day gained three points. In the final minute, May Day moved up their score to 12 points while Claude McKay continued to lag behind with eight points.

The buzzer segment proved to be the section of the match where May Day lost its composure and Claude McKay gained confidence to buzz their way to the win.

May Day seemed to have lost their cool after buzzing twice and getting both questions incorrect in the early part of the segment. But as Claude McKay buzzed and started gaining points, they were encouraged to continue and when the match ended they had 16 points while May Day ended with six.

The members of the Claude McKay team are Shauna Williams, Arlene Hayles, Daniele Smith (captain) and Nekeisha Davis.

Next Match: Old Harbour High versus Spalding High.</DIV>
