Stick to true colours of flag

    Published: Saturday | August 13, 2011 1 Comment

    THE EDITOR, Sir:
I write regarding a letter in Wednesday's edition, from Noel G. Osbourne, in which he responded to one from 'Concerned Jamaican' regarding the colour of Jamaica's flag.
A visit to the Jamaica Information Service (National Honours) website will confirm that the flag's colours are black, green and GOLD, and have always been.
In my opinion, the word 'gold' has been used to ensure that the flag is produced/represented as it is supposed to be. There are many shades of the colour yellow.
I have seen flags with the diagonal cross in a very pale yellow and have gone so far as to suggest to a vendor that he asks his supplier/manufacturer to use the 'golden' yellow. It is not OK for us to accept any old thing as our flag.
I am sure that there will be those who are wondering why we are expending so much energy on this subject; however, if we can't get our national symbols right, what can we get right?
