  • The debt deal is done and nobody seems happy..Why???

I mean we avoided default but could still get downgraded or put on negative watch by all the agencies, the liberals got nothing, the tea partiers got nothing, the savings dont actually kick in till 2012, there are no tax increases, we don't have to deal with it again untill Jan of 2013 and the stock market is falling faster than Arsenal during March in the EPL tables so what was this fuss all about....... ??? Someone shed some light please............

Tea Party got a lot. The Tea got NO TAX INCREASE. that is their number one mantra. They also secured cuts in Pell Grant, Medicare and Social Security.. Again the Dems got NOTHING.

Since the last election have you realise how much the Dems have given up without nothing gain from the right?

Been watching the market too Scaly.

Very early yesterday after the deal was cut..the market was in positive territory. I think the DOW went over 100. But then it fell like a friggin' rock...and keep falling..!!

So if you who count money for a living is asking why?...then I have feeling we have not seen the end of this.

The tea baggers may have flexed their muscles...but in a negative way!!!

I just saw that the market got bit@# slapped today, but as the eternal optimist I think once the dust settles over the next couple days we will see an up swing in the equity markets.

All I am thinking is that every friggin one of our elected officials, past and present should rescind any pension benefits that they are getting and will get.

Obama got a clear path to take his narrative on the campaign trail! ...if he wins...mark this down...you shall see a ruthless Obama - stepping on toes as he push his agenda while taking no prisoners! ...and he shall win!

Really the only major problem i have with the deal is the Tea Party's divine worship of the policy ZERO tax increases.

The spending cuts are in general a good thing and MANY MORE will be needed if the US is not to end up like Greece in a decade. Whoever don't want to accept that will have many more disapointments ahead regardless of who is running the US Federal Govt.

Yes certain benefit programs should be somewhat protected but NONE can be totally spared. It is also important however to make the tax system more balanced, right now the executives of the multinationals are reaping the benefits of living in a society that they contribute relatively speaking, proportionally very little to sustaining. Make no mistake though, the US federal govts problem is primarily one of SPENDING over the last 12 years. particularly the decade of 2000-2009.

Years ago I think it was Willi who used an analogy to describe the US as the rich kid who is used to living the high life and not realising the parent's company is near bankrupt. It is even more true now than then.

I used to store the few gold coins I have in a bank safety deposit box but I recently decided to move it elsewhere. That should give an idea how much confidence I have left in the US financial system. .

Spending has not been the only major problem. Cut back all of the Bush tax cut and we would have less of a deficit. If they bring it back to the 2000 level of taxes we could cut away at least 1/3 of the deficit. The Republican have been saying it spending but fail to mention the Iraq war and the drug prescription plan they put in place. Plus the lost of revenue because of the George Bush recession.

I have no problem with cutting but you can't cut all of the social programs and nothing else. And as you said the idea of 0 tax and we are not talking about raising tax level but cutting back on subsidies is totally in my view is totally wrong as you said.
