ISRAEL'S AMBASSADOR to Jamaica, Moshe Sermoneta, says he wants the world's fastest man, Usain Bolt, to grace the soil of his homeland.
"I would like him to come, I would like him to experience what Israel is; I would like him to share his talent with Israeli and Arab kids," Sermoneta told The Gleaner Friday.
The ambassador, who is based in the Dominican Republic, presented his credentials to Governor General Sir Patrick Allen at King's House on Thursday.
Speaking about Bolt, the world's fastest man over 100 metres (9.58 seconds) and 200 metres (19.19 seconds), Sermoneta said he wished Israelis could run as fast as the lanky Jamaican and admitted his country's athletes have "a long way to get there". Alex Porkhomovskiy, with 10.20, is Israel's fastest 100-metre sprinter.
In extending what he called an open invitation to Bolt, Sermoneta said the Jamaican sprint superstar is "an example of what human capacity is".
"There are some people who are strong in mathematics, and others are strong in their physical abilities; he is a wonder," Sermoneta said.
