    Issues? What issues?

Few Jamaicans prepared to vote on issues if elections are called now

The core support of the two major political parties remains strong as the country begins the countdown to the next general election with issues playing little part in the reasons persons would vote for either the People's National Party (PNP) or the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) candidate if elections are called now.

The latest Gleaner-commissioned Bill Johnson poll has found that, of the people who say they would vote for a JLP candidate if elections are called now, only 13 per cent would do so because they believe the Bruce Golding-led team is doing a better job than the previous PNP administration.

It is a similar story on the PNP, where only 18 per cent of those who say they would vote for that party would do so because they believe it did a better job than the current government.

The poll was conducted from May 28 to 29 and June 4 to 5 with a sample size of 1,008 and a margin of error of plus or minus four per cent with the question posed: 'What are the main reasons you would vote for the PNP, or the JLP candidate if elections are called now?

What we all know - Big reason: It is the swing voters who determine outcomes of elections.
