The Jamaica Labour Party candidate for central Manchester Sally Porteous says she is heading out of politics.

Porteous, who has been the JLP central Manchester candidate since 2007, has announced that she will not be running in the next general election due September 2012.

However, she has not yet made a decision whether she will seek re-election as the councillor for the Mandeville Division.

Porteous told The Gleaner/Power 106 News last night that her decision to seek re-election in the Manchester Parish Council will depend on when the local government polls are called.

Parish council elections are to be held by March next year after being postponed on three occasions.

Sally Porteous has been sitting as the councillor for the Mandeville Division since 2003 when she defeated the PNP’s Trevor Heaven.

In September 2007, she ran against the PNP’s Peter Bunting for the Central Manchester Parliamentary seat but lost.

However, three months later she retained her seat in the Manchester Parish Council when she trounced the PNP’s Jones Oliphant.

Porteous said she is now heading out of politics because she has done her best to represent the people, and it is time to move on and make room for others to take over.

Well, you're never too old to learn. Munro and Hampton share 6th forms. Hampton girls come over for science classes at Munro, while arts students from Munro go to Hampton for classes. There are times when this happens at the lower forms too.

Hampton. Close enough. She may have attended classes at Munro too, if she did sciences.
