PNP councillors implicated in KSAC fraud

RJR News has learnt that the Secretariat of the opposition People's National Party (PNP) has been locked in a meeting following word that three sitting Councillors aligned to the party have been linked to a multi-million dollar fraud at the Kingston and St Andrew Corporation, (KSAC).

When contacted Kingston's Mayor Desmond McKenzie said he's still awaiting official word on the names of the three Councillors linked to the allegations.

However the Opposition Spokesman on Local Government Colin Fagan told RJR News that the PNP is now gathering information on the matter.

“We are now in discussions with the persons named and at an appropriate time the party will make a statement” said Mr Fagan.

He said he was yet to make contact with the three Councillors noting that the matter has to be fully ventilated in an effort to find the truth.

And in a statement released this afternoon, the PNP says it views with the utmost seriousness, the allegation of fraud in the award of contracts in the Kingston and St. Andrew Corporation.

The Party noted that its position against corruption and illegality at any level is resolute and unequivocal.

At the same time the party says it does not condone the abuse of processes and resources in governance at the community or national level.

The Party added that it is pledging its full support to the Contractor General and other appropriate offices of the State in the current investigation.

It also called for a full and thorough investigation into the financial and management practices of all Parish Councils and Municipalities.
