  • Tax Administration moves in on tax dodgers’ property

Members of the special enforcement team of Tax Administration Jamaica were kept busy on Wednesday following back-to-back operations in two St. Andrew locations to collect outstanding monies owed for taxes.
In the first operation about six o’clock Wednesday morning the special enforcement team seized three vehicles at a house on Cadiz Avenue Chancery Hall, St. Andrew.
The cars are reportedly owned by a businessman who is also a director of a company with which tax officials have been negotiating to pay millions in outstanding taxes.
In the second operation, the team visited the office of an attorney at the usually busy Princeville Plaza, 95 Constant Spring Road.
Several office items worth thousands of dollars were seized from the attorney's office by agents acting on the instructions of Tax Administration Jamaica.
A source at Tax Administration Jamaica says seizure is a last resort for the agency, as this only occurs when huge sums of outstanding monies are involved.
The measure comes following exhaustive negotiations with the business owners.
A levy warrant was also served and the delinquents have up to ten days to make good on payments in order to retrieve the seized assets.
