  • PM’s budget address described as bland & lacking focus

The Opposition has taken a jab at Prime Minister Bruce Golding's Budget Presentation describing it as bland and lacking focus.
Dr. Omar Davies, the Spokesman on Finance, says among other things, Mr. Golding did not respond adequately to concerns raised about the 2011/2012 Budget.
The former Minister of Finance says the Prime Minister also failed to address areas of weakness in the Estimates of Expenditures.
"It seems to me that this was more a message to the multilaterals than to the Jamaican people. He was giving an assurance that they would not be changing from the programme. One interesting thing is that he sort of reprimanded the Government itself for (cutting) the (gas tax). That gave me a clue that this was a message aimed at the multilaterals in Jamaica," Dr. Davies told RJR’s Financial Report Tuesday night.
"Jamaica's future reflects its past, having attained only one per cent annual growth over 30 years whilst neighbours have grown at five per cent." (Article)

The PM seems to have taken a page out of Omar's book in his presentation yesterday.

That outsourcing business I had written about a few weeks ago and posted here, came in for special mention in his presentation and he named the managing director and the list of investors..wonder where he would have gotten that... hmm.

This was some thing that Omar used to do, select one or two small business and use them to try and prove how viable the economy is.

Interesting thing about the business he chose was that they could not get a cent to borrow from any bank in Jamaica even from those investing in the IT sector.

Didn't the PM use that business as an example of what ppl were doing in call centers? It was from there he went on to mention the money being made available for ppl wanting to start something.
