Prime Minister Bruce Golding has announced that some 11,000 jobs will be cut from the public sector over the next five years in a public sector rationalization programme by the Jamaican Government.
Golding made the announcement today in his Budget presentation in Parliament today.
Golding defended the decision by saying that this action among others will result in savings of $40-50 billion dollars.
"These savings will come primarily from staff reduction and the disposal of assets arising from the privatization and outsourcing of certain functions. Even greater benefit is expected from improved efficiency and productivity," Golding said.
