More than half of Jamaicans say they want a change of government.
The findings of the latest RJR/TVJ/Boxill polls show that 57.5% of Jamaicans said it was time for a change of government while 32.4% said that there was no need for a change.
The polls also show that the ruling Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) is trailing the People's National Party (PNP) as the organization likely to garner most votes if an election were held now.
In the latest polls conducted between April 9 and 15, 2011, when asked who they would vote for if an election were held now, 36% of Jamaicans said the PNP, giving the party an 11% lead over the JLP.
Twenty four point eight per cent of Jamaicans said the JLP, representing a 4 percentage point drop from the party's ratings in the July 2010 poll.
Twelve point six per cent were undecided and 22% said they would not be voting.
The polls' findings have also reflected a growing disaffection among members of the public with politics - as only 45% of potential voters said they would vote in the next election.
This represents an 8% drop in the numbers since the last poll in July 2010.
Thirty nine per cent said they were not likely to vote.
Notwithstanding, 13% said they were more likely to vote for a third party in a general election.
In addition only 7. 5 % said they would vote for the National Democratic Movement/ New Nation Coalition merger in the next elections.
Of note, both the JLP and the PNP continue to reflect higher unfavourable than favourable ratings.
However since the July 2010 poll, the PNP's favourable ratings have remained relatively unchanged, while those of the JLP have declined by 10%, moving from 38.3% to 28.8% in April 2011.
The JLP's unfavourable ratings have also increased by 8% from 48.1% in 2010 to 56% in 2011, while the PNP's unfavourable ratings have declined by 5% moving from 50% to 44.6%.
The polls were conducted among 1, 015 Jamaicans islandwide and have a margin of error of +/- 4%.
