Prime Minister of Jamaica Bruce Golding is to embark on an initiative to reconnect with Jamaicans as he seeks to regain public confidence in light the fallout from the Manatt/ Dudus saga.
Golding has faced severe backlash after admitting that he, as Leader of the Jamaica Labour Party, sanctioned the hiring of US law firm Manatt, Phelps and Phillips, to lobby the Obama Administration on the extradition request for Christopher 'Dudus' Coke.
He made the admission after first denying in Parliament that he had knowledge of the hiring of the firm.
The Opposition, private sector, civic groups and ordinary Jamaicans were angered by Golding’s lack of full disclosure and called for his resignation.
Speaking at a post-Cabinet Press briefing this morning, Daryl Vaz, the Minister with responsibility for Information, said the Manatt / Dudus saga had negatively affected Jamaicans’ perception of the Prime Minister.
And, Vaz said the prime minister would be moving to rebuild his relationship with Jamaicans.
