Ska Is Not Jazz!!

If you are looking for modern artist , I would recommend Dancing Mood from argentinia, they cover Ska, Dub , reggae and Jazz mostly the latter, NY SKA JAZZ Ensemble ,JAZZ JAMAICA out of England.St-Petersburg ska-jazz Review out of Europe. Tokyo Ska Paradise Orchestra more of a pop feel to it but still heavy on the ska.The Hepcats out of California , into the purist form of Ska ..did a tune called clarence thomas.

The best way to listen to ska is pandora music http://www.pandora.com/ down load it and type in the artist name , I would recommend all the Jamaican artist above and they play not only that artist but a wide range of genre that fits that artistic range and you might even find Jazz and Blues popping up.

Peter: Quite simply, this is just awesome!! (Is it the same little boy? I ask because the boy on teh first video looks a bit older.)

I actually found it hard to believe at first. In fact, I thought at first that the second video was a gimmick until I played it a second time. But this is what concentrated study in classical guitar in highly disciplined societies such as found in Asia and Europe can do. This youngster was classically trained -- there is no question about this -- hence the incredible technique.

I played both YouTube videos last night before going to bed, and again this morning when I woke.

In the first video with Sungha Jung playing Jason Mraz’s popular recording, “I’m Yours,” notice how the youngster focuses on arpeggios with his right hand, while his left hand extends all over the fret board to get the right combination of notes to provide those wonderful melody and harmony combination! Just beautiful!! I would love to hear him do that on a guitar.

The second video of him playing Bob’s “No Woman No Cry” is just incredible!! He also utilizes arpeggios along with other techniques (like harmonics and natural percussive effects) to provide a treasure chest of beauty!

By the way, Peter, reaching this very high level of technique and control requires much disciplined study. I would like to know how many hours this little boy spent in mastering his instrument to reach this stage at such a young age!!!!

Thanks for posting these YouTube videos, boss! Trust me, I will be watching them both for a long time to come !

He is older in the "ukelele" video... I think that is quite recent whereas the "no woman no cry" is about two yrs old.

according to it he is about to tour Japan. I believed he has performed at the Korea Jazz festival and has also done some touring in the US. I would personally like to see him live so I'll keep checking the site and maybe one of his tours will coincide with a trip of mine to the US.
