Jamaican judge to get international honour

THE American Society of International Law (ASIL) will today honour Judge Patrick Robinson, President of the International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia (ICTY), for a career of exemplary service in the field of international law.
Robinson will receive the award of honorary membership of the ASIL at the Society's 105th Annual Meeting at the Ritz Carlton Hotel in Washington.
The Honorary Membership which is given to one non-US individual per year, for distinguished contribution, or service in the field of International Law, boasts pasts recipients such as former Secretaries General of the United Nations, Kofi Annan, in 1999 and Boutros Boutros-Ghali, in 1995.
He is currently in his third term as President of the Tribunal, having been first elected in November 2008 by his fellow judges, re-elected in October 2009, and in January 2011.
From 1968-1971 he served in Jamaica as a Crown Counsel in the Office of the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP). He also served in the Attorney General's Department as Crown Counsel, Senior Assistant Attorney General, Director of the Division of International Law, and Deputy Solicitor General.
He was Jamaica’s Representative for 26 years, to the Sixth (Legal) Committee of the UN General Assembly (1972-1998).
