Justice Ministry denies shredding documents about "Dudus" extradition

    Christopher "Dudus" Coke.

The Ministry of Justice is rushing to deny a report carried elsewhere in the media that documents relating to the Christopher "Dudus" Coke extradition matter are being shredded at its offices.
In a statement issued late Tuesday night, the Ministry said none of the documents has been destroyed.
It also moved to shed light on the shredding of documents which were kept by Verna McGaw, the former executive secretary to Senator Dorothy Lightbourne, the Minister of Justice.
According to the Justice Ministry, documents which were in Ms McGaw's desk drawer were shredded.
However, it explained that this was done to provide space for the incoming officer who took over when Ms McGaw was transferred from the Ministry in January of last year.
Ms McGaw completed two days of testimony before the Manatt/Dudus Commission of Enquiry at the Jamaica Conference Centre in downtown Kingston on Tuesday.
The same type of thinking that created a problem cannot be used to solve the problem.

What? They found a bad note that Dottie wrote about McGaw? Was that presented as evidence?

Not about, gave Ms. McGaw to type and e-mail and that one had nothing to do with 'extradition' or 'Dudus'!

                Missing 'Dudus' record book found

The missing book used to keep a record of persons who handled the authenticated documents containing the extradition request for Christopher ‘Dudus’ Coke, has been found.

In a press release today the Ministry of Justice said that the book, which was reported missing during the cross examination of justice ministry consultant, Marcia Beverley, at the Manatt-Dudus commission of enquiry has been located and was forwarded to the Commission's Secretariat this afternoon.

The book which is used for the recording confidential documents was misplaced in a file that was secured in a cabinet in the office of the person with responsibility for these matters according to the release.

The release went on to say that when Hurricane Tomas became a threat to Jamaica in October 2010, all documents were secured on behalf of the desk officer while she was out of office and the book was inadvertently misplaced when it was being locked away for safe keeping.
