  • AG X Secretary face the COE without a lawyer

The CG has lawyer to roast the AG (his boss)
The DPP has a lawyer to roast the AG (their boss)

It is the AG responsibility to provode her with a lawyer so why could'nt the DPP Office provide a lawyer to defend the poor secretary against the AG against her boss.

JCSA livid at absence of lawyer for A.G’s former senior secretary

Wayne Jones, President of the Jamaica Civil Service Association.

A showdown is looming between the government and Jamaica Civil Service Association (JCSA) as concern continues to mount about the apparent absence of legal counsel for Verna McGaw, a former Executive Secretary of Senator Dorothy Lightbourne, the Attorney General and Justice Minister at the Manatt/Dudus Commission of Enquiry, which resumed at the Jamaica Conference Centre in downtown Kingston.
On Monday, Wayne Jones, the head of the JCSA, told RJR News that Ms McGaw had been advised that attorney-at-law Stuart Stimpson had been retained to represent her.
However, concern was raised again Tuesday morning that based on the line of questioning Ms McGaw was facing from Dr. Adolph Edwards, one of the counsel for the Attorney General, it did not appear that she had legal representation at the Enquiry.
A visibly upset Mr. Jones told RJR News Tuesday morning that the JCSA is taking steps to immediately address what he called a clear breach.
"She’s at the Enquiry giving evidence without legal representation and we find this to be most reprehensible, we find this to be a total disregard for the rights of the worker by the employer and we find this to be a total disregard for the public service regulations of 1961 which makes it clear that in such circumstances, the worker must be provided with legal representation, through the Attorney General’s Chambers. But it would be impractical to expect that anybody from that chamber would represent her under the circumstances under which she has been called to give evidence," Mr. Jones said.
He added that he has formally complained to the Chief Personnel Officer and the Deputy Financial Secretary about the issue.
The same type of thinking that created a problem cannot be used to solve the problem.

I thought that the fellow who asked her questions at the end was Oliver Smith (The CG lawyer,) perhaps Stimpson sounds like Oliver Smith.

So where was Mr Stimpson when she was asked where she worked now? Was he late or ineffective? It was KD that objected to that question and no one objected to her answer the question about where she worked after leaving lightbourne office.

Now back to the RJR news story. Let me test my comprehension skills.

On Monday, Wayne Jones, the head of the JCSA, told RJR News that Ms McGaw had been advised that attorney-at-law Stuart Stimpson had been retained to represent her. However, concern was raised again (comprehende 101) Tuesday morning (comprehende 102) that based on the line of questioning Ms McGaw was facing from Dr. Adolph Edwards, (Comprehende 103) one of the counsel for the Attorney General, it did not appear that she had legal representation at the Enquiry.

She faced the Dr Edwards on Tuesday morning so either Mr Simpson was late, ineffective or absent because it did not appear that she had legal representation when she faced the Dr Edwards.

I will take your word that Mr Simpson was there, was he or late or ineffective or both?
