Portia Simpson Miller- file photo The People’s National Party (PNP) says it will not be contesting the April 4 by-election to fill the South West St. Catherine seat which has become vacant following the resignation of Everald Warmington.
It was announced yesterday that the Jamaica Labour Party MP had resigned because he had dual citizenship at the time of his nomination in 2007.
But the PNP says it has no intention of participating in any by-elections where MPs resign because of ineligibility.
The party also says it’s concerned about information it has received, that monies are to be allocated through the St. Catherine Parish Council, to be utilised in the South West St. Catherine by-election.
Meanwhile, the party says it will be embarking on a programme of public education in the divisions and constituency where the by-elections are to be held, to explain the reasons for its position.
