"Boosted by inflows from the recent US$400 million bond, the country's Net International Reserves (NIR) rose to its highest levels ever, at the end of February.
The Bank of Jamaica Monday released data showing that the NIR jumped to just under US$2.5 billion at the end of the month.
At that level, the NIR can purchase goods and services for Jamaicans for six months, if necessary.
The NIR is money set aside for the proverbial "rainy day", and at current levels it is $1 billion above the level targeted in the agreement Jamaica signed with the International Monetary Fund, a year ago."
