US public sector workers protest to Bob Marley song
In the midst of protests across the United States by public sector workers Thursday, Jamaica received some unexpected recognition.
A growing number of public sector workers have been protesting against a move by the Government to cut some of their benefits.
The situation was especially heated in Wisconsin, where the move to pass a bill to cut some workers' rights was stalled.
However, in the midst of the protests, the music of resistance from one of Jamaican's reggae icons, Bob Marley, played loudly.
“The official song of this movement from the moment it started has been Bob Marley’s ‘Get Up, Stand Up for Your Rights’,” said John Nichols, a reporter in the midst of the demonstrations.
