"It therefore is useless and pointless, unless it is for share malice and victimisation to arrest and charge a 92-year-old man for such a simple offence. There is nothing morally wrong with this man smoking a spliff; the only thing wrong is that it is still on the law books," said Chevannes.

Well if im duh dat , mi a vote fi dat Party when the reafirmation of the whoring political debt comes around, it shows she wants better.

"Whether empanelled to exonerate wholesale death and destruction by friends or agents of the state or sanitise a done deal or extricate the ones with authority to appoint them, commissions of enquiry in Jamaica have generally followed the odious formula devised by those who set them up in the England of a bygone day when politicians saw themselves as close to the monarchy they were gradually replacing. Certainly leaders of that era considered the exercise of power to be similar in nature to divine right.

"Prime Minister Bruce Golding says it will take an individual the likes of Contractor General Greg Christie to head the Office of the Special Prosecutor, which will be mandated to monitor statutory declarations from public officials and prosecute those who engage in corrupt conduct.

"I don't know who will ever emerge as the special prosecutor; there is a process for the appointment but I would like to see somebody emerge who approaches this job with the ferocity and the seriousness of the current contractor general; that's what I am looking for," Golding told Parliament Wednesday in opening the debate on the Corruption Prevention (Special Prosecutor) Act."

The question is what is classified as a statutory declaration in Jamaica? and will it be an office that has no party affiliation or operate with independence under free political terms.

If it has to be a political appointment by a governing party ...vote guy fawkes, it should be an office which has a 10 year term, a confirmation hearing and a senatorial /judicial vote of equal numbers.

Anything less is a diservice to the masses.

The Corruption Prevention "Special Prosecutor" Act will repeal the 2001 Corruption (Prevention) Act and the 1973 Parliament (Integrity of Members) Act, to establish the Office of the Special Prosecutor as a department of Government with the specific mandate to monitor statutory declarations from public officials and to prosecute those who engage in corrupt conduct.

Jamaica in 2005 signed the United Nations Convention against corruption, one of the requirements under that convention. The special prosecutor, who will be appointed by the governor general, must be an attorney-at-la with experience as a high court judge or a senior deputy director of public prosecutions.

Aha .....the political card , governor general and DDP appointed , no Boss mi nuh inna di appointment thing.Given our rich history of screwing that up, we need a confirmation hearing and dont tell me we cannot do it.

By judicial vote (Jamaica Lawyer association ) and Senatorial members (equal numbers in party affiliation).

To me it would be the most important step that we have taken since our independence .We have to get this right.

It will keep the spine of our nation straight , god willing forever.

High Court judge od Senior DPP, hmm. Do appointments from other Caricom countries count? I am fed up with Jamaicans are afraid to cross the path of the politicians.

I dont think they are afraid, Christie OCG proves this , its the shitstem where political appointments are ingrained in the psychic to maintain the whore system.

Our leaders lack the common sense to rectify it by doing the obvious , break it.Why do we have nepotistic political appointments to government branches that can suppress our constitution ?

Confirmation hearings to sensitive post with the aim of no political bias should be the objective. The judicial arm needs to be free from political interference.

The OCG sent 30 recommendations for prosecution and the DPP did what ? the DPP is in the middle of the Duddus drama, tainted as being a conspirator.

If the DPP was an independent body , not appointed by any political party but confirmed by a judicial/senatorial vote, Bruce wouldnt dare .........aaah sah.

There would not be a need for the OCG.

To be honest its not supressing the constitution with these poitical appointments but enforcing it , at the detriment of the citizens lives.

Some here honestly think , good people will do the right thing ?Well they are constitutionally doing the right thing ,politically but not socially.

Poor people a suffer under dis constitution.
