    FORMER SPELLING CHAMPION ATTACKED

    Jody-Anne Maxwell
The ex-boyfriend of former Spelling Bee champion, Jody-Anne Maxwell, appeared in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court yesterday accused of assaulting her.
Adrian Marshall, a 28-year-old musician from Graham Heights, St Andrew, is accused of choking and biting Maxwell on the grounds of the Matilda's Corner Police Station. He was charged with assault occasioning bodily harm.
At the request of Maxwell, who is now an attorney-at-law, Resident Magistrate Judith Pusey made a no order in the case, as Maxwell and Marshall had settled the matter at the Dispute Resolution Foundation.
    damages
As a result, the court heard that Marshall had agreed to pay the complainant $23,100 for special damages and $250,000 for general damages for defamation of character, pain and suffering emotional distress. He also apologised to Maxwell in court.
Allegations are that on January 4, Marshall trailed Maxwell as she went to see her boyfriend. Upon leaving where her boyfriend was and driving on to Half-Way Tree Road, she noticed Marshall was following her and she drove to the Matilda's Corner Police Station.
The court heard that she exited the vehicle to enter into the station's guardroom when she was attacked, punched her in the face, choked and bitten on the left side of her neck.
It was further heard that the police came out the station and restrained Marshall before sending Maxwell to seek medical attention. He was later arrested and charged.

Thats when I support police brutality!!! Anyone who cause any injury or bodily harm in a police station should be beaten to a pulp.

Not every man was designed to deal with another man going where ha has gone before. That is why religions teach no sex before marriage and no divorce, its until death do us part.

True! That idiot must be locked away for what he did! I will happily build the prison for sickos like him. He will try this stunt again, and maybe next time...let me not even think it!

Imagine if it were not in a police station yard where he accosted her but at her personal residence!!!

In several states violence against women in a prior/existing relationship is considered a crime against the state. If the victim does not wish to file charges on the offender, then the state will file them anyway on behalf of the victim. This strategy was adopted to curb the battered spouse/girlfriend/ex-girlfriend syndrome where the victim will not file charges, because of financial reasons where the offender is the primary bread winner, emotional attachment, or fear of retaliation from the offender etc.

"It therefore is useless and pointless, unless it is for share malice and victimisation to arrest and charge a 92-year-old man for such a simple offence. There is nothing morally wrong with this man smoking a spliff; the only thing wrong is that it is still on the law books," said Chevannes.
