Manatt/Dudus Commissioners angered by absence of AG representatives

Manatt/Dudus Commission Chairman, Emil George Q.C, was livid over Monday morning's absence of representatives of the Attorney General's Department.
The representatives were expected to shed further light on memoranda referred to during last week's testimony by Permanent Secretary in the Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade Ministry, Ambassador Evadne Coye.
Ambassador Coye testified that the request for Coke's extradition was based not only on the Mutual Legal Assistance Treaty, but also on three memoranda signed several years ago.
Ambassador Coye says copies of the memoranda would have been in the possession of her agency and the Attorney General's Department.
It was expected that an update on the whereabouts of the documents would have been provided at Monday's sitting.
However, this turned out not to be the case.
“We have the right to see them when everybody else does, so the Attorney General’s representative should have been here,” Mr. George said.
“We had set two things to be done today, to deal with the question of Mr. Brady and to deal with the question of the MOUs,” said legal advisor to the Manatt/ Dudus Commission of enquiry, Garth McBean.
Mr. George says the AG's Department should notify the Commission if the documents are located.
He says if there is a point of public interest or privilege they wish to claim, this should be told to the Tribunal, and argued accordingly.
The Commission Chairman described Monday's sitting as a tremendous waste of time, due to the absence of material.
He then requested the AG's representative's presence at the next sitting.
