Energy Minister James Robertson has filed a libel suit against Nationwide News Network (NNN) and two of its employees in relation to the publication of allegations made by a man who is seeking asylum in the United States.
The man, Ian Johnson, had made damning allegations against the Mr. Robertson which was published on Nationwide.
However, calling the allegations a "smear campaign" the Energy Minister on Wednesday instructed his lawyer, Patrick Bailey to file a libel claim against the station, and its employees Emily Crooks and Naomi Francis.
Ian Johnson and his attorney Professor David Rowe have also been named in the libel suit.
The attorney representing Mr. Robertson said the suit seeks damages for libel, conspiracy and exemplary or aggravated damages.
Interest is being sought on the damages claimed and it excludes costs and attorney fees.
Cliff Hughes, NNN Executive Producer says he will fight the charges.
