James Robertson, Mining and Energy Minister and Member of Parliament (MP) for Western St Thomas, has made good on his promise to file lawsuits to defend himself against damning allegations made against him by a constituent.
Mr. Robertson has filed a lawsuit in a Florida Court seeking damages against attorney-at-law Professor David Rowe, who is representing Ian Johnson, the man who has accused the minister of illegal activities.
Since the allegations surfaced last month, Mr. Robertson has been at pains to defend his name and character.
He has consistently argued that Mr. Johnson's claims are false and that the true story will eventually come out.
However, many political pundits opined that the allegations are a drag on the Bruce Golding administration and this could see Mr. Robertson moved out of the Cabinet in a pending shake-up.
They pointed to a recent decision by the Prime Minister to take control of a multi-billion dollar Liquid Natural Gas (LNG) project from Mr. Robertson.

In his suit filed in the Southern District Court in Florida, Mr. Robertson is going after Mr. Rowe, the attorney who took the damning deposition from Mr. Johnson, who is seeking asylum in the United States.
He has sued Professor Rowe for damages in excess of US$15,000.
The minister and his US-based attorney Alvin Entin claimed that the statement made by Mr. Johnson of Mr. Robertson being involved in illegal activity, was false and that Professor Rowe knew that the statement was false.
The Energy Minister accused Professor Rowe and Mr. Johnson of creating the false statement for the purpose of damaging him politically.
He said notwithstanding the lack of corroboration, Professor Rowe provided a copy of the statement to a Jamaican radio station, where it was portrayed as a sworn statement given to the Southern District Court in Florida.
Mr. Robertson added that the publications were quickly passed around and the statement was republished all over the internet, on Facebook, on news sites and on multiple blogs.
He accused Professor Rowe of being engaged in a campaign against the Jamaica Labour Party and its members.
He said the sole purpose of Professor Rowe in taking the deposition from Mr. Johnson is to defame him through libel and slander.
