Guyana & the UK in sugar battle
The Guyana Sugar Corporation (Guysuco) is preparing to counter sue the United Kingdom-based sugar industry management services provider, Booker Tate.
Booker Tate has already slapped a lawsuit on Guysuco for US$773,000 or £500,000 that the company says is outstanding for the management of Guyana's problem-plagued Skeldon Sugar Factory.
Guysuco has scrapped the contract and refused to pay that outstanding amount.
Nankshore Gopaul, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Guysuco, says the company is counter suing Booker Tate over inefficient and improper implementation.
The Chinese-made factory, built at a cost of nearly US$200 million, has been dogged by a series of defects.
