DPP rules that fraud charges to be laid against St. Ann's Bay Mayor
The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) has ruled that fraud charges are to be laid against Mayor of St Ann's Bay, Ivan Anderson.
DPP Paula Llewellyn told RJR NewsThursday afternoon that she made the ruling on Wednesday and has since submitted the ruling to the Police High Command.
The file which contains fraud allegations against Mr. Anderson was submitted to the Clerk of the Court at the St. Ann's Bay Resident Magistrate's Court over a month ago.
The Clerk made a ruling on December 1 and according to Ms. Llewellyn, she reviewed the file on Wednesday and endorsed the ruling of the Clerk of the Court.
Mayor Anderson is alleged to have defrauded a woman of $5 million in a real estate deal.
It is alleged that he sold a piece of property in Manchester for $8 million on behalf of a relative, but failed to turn over $5 million of the proceeds as agreed.
The police were called and following investigation he was questioned by the Brown's Town Police in October.
A file was then submitted to the Clerk of the Courts.
Mr. Anderson's attorney, Debbie Samuels, declined to comment on the matter when contacted by RJR News.
