Review 81 Launch, Part of Symposium on Bob Marley and His Legacy

    7:00 p.m.
    Americas Society
    680 Park Avenue
    New York, NY
    Map of location

The symposium will address the life and work of Bob Marley—the musician, composer, Rastafarian, and world-culture icon. The event, which will bring together associates of Marley, poets, and musicians, will be comprised of an inaugural conversation between Chris Blackwell (founder, Island Records) and Christopher John Farley (Before the Legend) (November 16); a panel with scholars Robert Hill (UCLA) and Herbie Miller (Jamaica Music Museum/Institute of Jamaica), and musician Ibo Cooper (Edna Manley College of the Visual & Performing Arts), moderated by Christopher Winks (Queens College, CUNY) (November 17); and a launch of Review 81 (Bob Marley and His Legacy, Fall 2010) (November 18), featuring guest editors Lorna Goodison (From Harvey River) and Christopher Winks (Queens College/CUNY) as well as poets/writers including Jacqueline Bishop, Kwame Dawes, and Shara McCallum.

With the collaboration of the Consulate General of Jamaica in New York and InterAmericas®.

Note: Concurrent to the symposium, the Consulate General of Jamaica in New York will present an exhibition of images from Bob Marley and the Golden Age of Reggae: The Photographs of Kim Gottlieb-Walker (Titan Books 2010) in its space at 767 Third Avenue, 2nd Floor, NYC.
