MANDEVILLE, Manchester — Manchester's most wanted man, 32-year-old Kevin 'Chichani' Brown, was sentenced to 10 years in prison Friday.
Brown, who appeared in the Mandeville circuit court, was convicted just over a week ago on charges of shooting with intent and illegal possession of firearms.
He was sentenced to 10 years for shooting with intent and seven years for illegal possession of firearms. However, the sentences will run concurrently.
Brown was held earlier this year during a roadblock in Clarks Town, Trelawny. He reportedly broke into a farm in Christiana, Manchester, which was owned by a police superintendent.
When the superintendent went to investigate strange sounds he heard outside, a man who police sources said the superintendent recognised as Brown, reportedly fired shots at him.
The incident took place on March 18 this year, and Brown was held in Trelawny some time later. At the time of his arrest, two illegal guns were reportedly found in his possession.
Court officials told the Observer that Brown, who has already been fingered for six other offences, is to face the courts again.
He also remains a key suspect in a number of shooting and robbery cases in the parish.
Brown's lawyer, Queen's Counsel Velma Hylton, pleaded for leniency for her client, as she said he was a father of three, and a man who supported his children. But Justice Lennox Campbell, who handed down the sentence, said the court was now bound by a recent law passed in Parliament to sentence persons on firearm charges to at least 15 years.
However, he said the court had taken into consideration the fact that Brown's case had come before the courts before the law came into effect, hence the 10-year sentence.
