Senators Norman Grant, at left front in the Opposition benches (right of picture) and Mark Golding must be feeling rather lonely, as they are outnumbered by Government senators, at last Friday's first sitting of the Upper House since it took summer break late July.

The Opposition has a total of eight senators and the Government 13. Missing for the Opposition were: Senators Navel Clarke, Sandrea Falconer, K D Knight, A J Nicholson, Noel Sloley, and Basil Waite.

Absentee Government senators were: Tom Tavares-Finson, Marlene Malahoo-Forte, and Ian Murray. (Photo: Bryan Cummings)
