Downtown cleared of eight more tons of debris

POLICE this morning cleared the main thoroughfare from West Street to Darling Street of about eight tons of debris as they continue their drive to clean up the capital.
Work crews from the Jamaica Public Service Company were able to disconnect another 50 illegal JPS connections. This is in addition to the over 330 that were disconnected yesterday.
A quantity of marijuana was also seized by the Police. No arrests have as yet been made in connection with the seizure.
The public is being reminded that a curfew is still in place in sections of downtown Kingston, Hannah Town and Denham Town.
The curfew ends at 1:00 am tomorrow.

PNPYO raises concern over removal of vendors

The People’s National Party Youth Organisation (PNPYO) is also raising concern about the manner in which the police are trying to remove vendors from certain areas of downtown Kingston.

PNPYO President Damion Crawford is of the view that the initiative shows just how the poor is oppressed in the country.

He is also calling for a review of the informal sector.
