Gov’t approves ‘Dudus’, Manatt commission of enquiry
By ALICIA DUNKLEY, Observer senior reporter, dunkleya@jamaicaobserver.com
    Tuesday, October 12, 2010

THE Government has decided to establish a commission of enquiry into the handling of the extradition request for former West Kingston strongman Christopher 'Dudus' Coke and the subsequent engagement of United States law firm Manatt Phelps and Phillips.
Prime Minister Bruce Golding, making the announcement in Parliament this afternoon, said the composition of the commission and the terms of reference will be made public shortly.
The Opposition People’s National Party and a number of interest groups and individuals have been calling for a commission of enquiry into both matters which have been fraught with controversy.
Golding initially denied engaging Manatt to lobby the United States government on Coke's behalf, but subsequently admitted that the Jamaica Labour Party, and not the Government, had engaged the firm.
Coke was extradited in June, after waiving his rights to an extradition hearing in Jamaica.

Actually I agree with you ... this is a focking waste of time and money.

What will the court case tell us that the enquiry won't, and vice versa?

Waste of everyone's time and money!

I can understand the PNP's call for it. That's the political thing to do, but, given the lawsuit and everything else, Bruce did not have to establish it. Unless him really want a reason to leave office.

Will this enquiry really tell us anything new? Which enquiry has really unearthed or determined anything substantial?!?

agree, bruce should resign and save the country's money...

Which enquiry has really unearthed or determined anything substantial?!?
i cannot recall the outcome of all the enquirys we have had in jamaica... it seems bruce is just playing jamaica people...

i think all these moves, lawsuit or threat of lawsuit by brady and now this enquiry is all a concoction by brady and bruce to buy time and ease the pressure...

the lawsuit by brady is intended to get the press off bruce... any questions posed is answered by 'cannot comment because it is now a matter before the courts'... likewise the enquiry... they really take jamaicans for fools...
