UPDATE: Dialogue continues to avert national strike in Jamaica

2010-09-15 09:04:22 | (0 Comments)

The Jamaica Confederation of Trade Unions (JCTU) is to hold further dialogue with the Government, to avert an islandwide strike by public sector workers.

Civil servants are restive over the Government’s failure to pay outstanding allowances and salaries due since 2008.

The finance ministry
has said the national strike was called off following initial talks with the JCTU.

According to the JCTU general secretary, Wayne Jones, further talks will be held this week with technical teams from the finance ministry.

Jones says the public sector monitoring committee will also meet next week to consider the remuneration options for public sector workers.

President of the University and Allied Workers Union, Lambert Brown, says there could be a national strike if the meetings fail.

The Government has maintained that it cannot pay the salary increases due to public sector workers, because of the conditions of the agreement with the International Monetary Fund

Is bribery illegal in Jamaica? All we know for a fact is that the matter was handled in a sloppy manner. IS that a reason to resign? Give it a rest Karl.

No Lazie you acknowledge that it was as you stated.

...I see Bruce as engaging in Criminal acts. ...and the vast majority of Jamaicans...JLP and PNP and no P see Likle Brucie as not being just sloppy...a sloppy liar! ...and you do know that if one lies under certain circumstances a criminal offense has been commited!

Even your buddy Maudib's "critical thinking" would deduce Likle Brucie a criminal.

they will vote him out no doubt. i think bruce is playing a game here, IF he stays on and manages to win the next election then the "calls for resignation" would have reasonated hollow. if he resigns, he's career is dead. first sitting prime minister to resign because of corruption....nope bruce nuh want dat dere distinction

interesting game he seems to be playing.
