A long-standing member of the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) has taken issue with the leadership of the party and the government over the west Kingston incursion.
Just over three weeks ago, 73 people were killed in a gun battle as members of the security forces were attacked while entering Tivoli Gardens to arrest Christopher 'Dudus' Coke.
Coke is wanted in Jamaica to face extradition proceedings to determine whether he should be sent to the United States on gun and drugs charges.
In a letter to the JLP general secretary dated June 17, attorney-at-law, Janet Mignott said she was appalled by the events and the role of the JLP in the entire development.
Mignott said she felt ashamed about what seems to have been an inordinate number of extra judicial killings, the destruction of property and the subjection of residents to inhumane treatment.
She said she could not condone the behaviour of the government and the party’s leadership and as a result she is resigning as a JLP member.
