The incident reportedly took place about 7:30.
It is reported that Constable Kelly went to Pond Side in Mango Valley where he was accosted and severely beaten by a group of men.
He was taken to the Port Maria Hospital and later transferred to the St. Ann's Bay Hospital where he received several stitches.
The police are seeking five men in connection with the incident.
