wbvs, I don't know the "growth" but the 2009 figures are available. Apparently, there are three organizations which give world ranking on GDP. The 2009 figures in millions of USD are as follows:
*M$14,681.00 - World Bank
*M$11,920.00 - CIA World Facts
*M$11,903.00 - International Monetary Fund

growth is - 0.9 % and forecast Growth for 2011 is 1.5 % , I
am no economist but common sense tell us the low interest
jlp regime may get growth of 3,4,or 5 % by budget 2012 which
also happen to be an election year .

As mi say any government who can't get 3% growth over time is USELESS.
With low interest rate, Chinese buying the sugar, the roadwork them a go splash out, growth in Agriculture and tourism there is a decent chance it can happen.
Don't let negative things break you, instead let it be your strength, your reason for growth. Life is for living and I won't spend my life feeling cheated and downtrodden.

Pretty much!
I'm not sure the present government can achieve that in the next two years though. But after 6,7,8 years and you haven't achieved meaningful growth, you have failed. God knows how Jamaica put up with 18 years of NO growth.
I see no reason why they can't do it within the next two years.
That is what they promise and that is what I expect. Granted that they had a recession but by next year I expect to see 3% growth.

Well it would be nice, but I don't see it happening. If developed countries are not projected to grow by that much next year, I don't see how JA can expect to.

Recognizing the victims of Jamaica's horrendous criminality and exposing the Dummies like Dippy supporting criminals by their deeds.. or their silence.
check Africa, Brazil, China, India and you will see that the developing countries growth rate are much higher than the developed countries.

Brazil, China, India and some African countries have been experiencing strong growth for a number of years though. Jamaica is coming from the background 18 years of no growth and declining production and then one of the biggest world reccessions. The aforementioned countries are in a stronger position coming out of the recession. At present, JA is just trying to stay afloat. Growth should come, and if doesn't then the government has failed, but I don't think we will see 3% growth next year.
Yeah but when does the growth start? There is no right time. 3% is minimal not something to rejoice over.
The platform is set. We need to work harder and smarter. We had a decline of at least 3-4% over the past two years and at least that we can get back and put ourselves on solid footing.

3% is minimal, but yet it has eluded Jamaica for years. There is no quick fix for that. The platform is set or atleast its getting there, so the growth SHOULD come. I hope Im wrong btw and 3% growth is chieved next year. According to wbvs's post, the IMF are predicting half that.
