More details on Air Jamaica deal, please
Published: Thursday | July 15, 2010
The Jamaican government needs to clarify an element of the deal with Trinidad and Tobago's Caribbean Airlines for its takeover of Air Jamaica.
At one stage, Jamaican officials, including Prime Minister Bruce Golding, had suggested that the Air Jamaica brand was not part of the deal. The name would be kept by Jamaica. In time, it seemed, the whole operation would be run as Caribbean Airlines and, presumably, the Air Jamaica name could be resurrected at some time in the future, by someone. However, the Trinidad and Tobago
prime minister has said that Air Jamaica will be operated under the old brand. Our foreign minister has confirmed this.
An explanation is needed, including whether there was any consideration for the Air Jamaica brand. It would be useful to publish the entire agreement.
