Ganja robs 23-y-o of memory

MONTEGO BAY, St James — A young Montego Bay man admitted in the St James Resident Magistrate's Court that his excessive ganja smoking had affected his memory to the point where he could not recall what had happened during a previous brush with the law.
After pleading guilty to possession of an offensive weapon -- a pair of scissors -- and a small amount of ganja, Rafeik McKenzie admitted to a previous ganja conviction but was at pains to recall what happened,. In a candid confession about his smoking habits, McKenzie told the court, "me smoke so much weed me can't even remember".
The 23-year-old man who had been in police custody for more than a week since his arrest, didn't appear to be aware of his surroundings as he giggled uncontrollably during the hearing while muttering.
At one point when asked by Resident Magistrate Sandria Wong Small if he needed help to stop smoking ganja, he responded: "If unnu want me fi stop smoke weed, then a unnu fi get rid of it", but the judge did not hear the comments.
In response to the Clerk of Courts' query as to what he was doing with the scissors, McKenzie answered matter of factly, "to cut up the weed".
He was fined $3000 or 10 days for the offensive weapon and $100 or 10 days for the ganja plus $500 in court costs.
