I have heard of it by both names. I just did not see the craze about it anyway. That is one Jamaican food I would not readily recommend to anyone. (tdown)

Aluminum foil probably work just as well.

Sickko, Did you happen to see canned coconut water from Thailand? Tried it a couple of times but tasted too artificial for me.

Now you see why some a we lick out against establishment in Jamaica. To see these products coming from other countries when you know there is no reason the people of Jamaica can't make some money too. There is always some good excuse why.

Assasin (12/29/2006)Now you see why some a we lick out against establishment in Jamaica. To see these products coming from other countries when you know there is no reason the people of Jamaica can't make some money too. There is always some good excuse why.
Ssas, I know we always think we in Jamaca have so much to offer. In fact we do, but sometimes we have to put things in perspective.

You know, I think Thailand has the advantage of economies of scale when compared to Jamaica. Their land size is about 50 times the size of ours and they have a population which is approximately 22 times ours. I am sure they are able to produce much more coconuts because of their massive land and available labor force advantage.

Also, Thailand have us out in the area of GDP:

          Thailand GDP
          GDP (purchasing power parity):
          $550.2 billion (2005 est.)
          GDP (official exchange rate):
          $183.9 billion (2005 est.)
          GDP - real growth rate:
          4.5% (2005 est.)
          GDP - per capita (PPP):
          $8,600 (2005 est.)

          Jamaica GDP
          GDP (purchasing power parity):
          $12.18 billion (2005 est.)
          GDP (official exchange rate):
          $9.127 billion (2005 est.)
          GDP - real growth rate:
          1.8% (2005 est.)
          GDP - per capita (PPP):
          $4,500 (2005 est.)

I am not saying we cannot produce some of the things you are suggesting we can. But can we produce some of the things you are suggesting and be competitive in the global market-place?

Tilla how do you campare that we are net importer from the caribbean region?

The only way we can grow our GDP is to use new technology to get better Banana plant9or other products) and find a way of growing it effiently. That is the only way our GDP will grow.

Per Capita the other small island in the caribbean are ahead of us. It is refreshing to see Grace and Red Stripe in the super markets.

We can do much more than we are doing right now. Our GDP has not grown since the 1960s.

If Jamaican GDP had grown 2% a year since 1980 we would have a wonderful standard of living now.

also notice the GDP per Capita.

It is much better than ours.
