Here is the latest from the gleaner ...
June murders continue to trend downwards
There has been a noticeable dip in the murder figures for the month of June thus far with 58 murders being committed up to June 20.
This is a 63 per cent decline in the murder rate.
This downward trajectory continues the trend for June which saw a 50 per cent decline for the first two weeks.
Police statistics obtained by The Gleaner show that this is 34 less than the 92 homicides recorded over the same period last year.
Since the start of this month, there has been a steady decline in murders. This coincides with a major push by the security forces to dismantle criminal gangs.
However, the 793 murders reported since the start of the year is 74 more than was reported for the same period last year.
A record 1,680 people were murdered in Jamaica last year.
So far this this year the police have also seized 331 firearms and over 16,000 rounds of assorted ammunition.
