  • Manufacturing....Ah true ?!

    "But whilst the sector is strong in these areas, there are weaknesses in the workplace such as management, marketing, supply chain management, technology application and productivity as well as weaknesses within the overall environment that must be addressed to increase the contribution of the sector to development. Did you know that in the 1980s the manufacturing sector employed over 120,000 persons and contributed 20 per cent to GDP?" he asked.

    Maudib, sometimes you act as if you are new to the forum.
    Over the years I have said repeatedly that my experiences, working in the private sector and with Jamaica private sector persons and entities, show me a private sector that has been and is underachieving mainly because of
    i) papering over inefficiencies by increasing mark-up;
    ii) arrogance (stupidity?) - stemming from 'ego games', unwillingness to even entertain receipt of information because of source e.g. the 'who is he...must know his place, not a member of the in crowd, etc....to outside the island info - You can't come here and tell us what to do? ...failure to surround the decision makers with more competent talent (fear of position being threatened, etc.)

    My consistent conclusions - the private sector in terms of performances over the years, CRAP!

    Sure we have our Sandals and GraceKennedy...but where are the many others needed. We certainly have the resources begging exploitation. ...our underemployment and unemployment...our poverty levels, etc. certainly speak to that.
