    I am not a gangster - Silvera
    Published: Saturday | June 5, 2010 0 Comments and 0 Reactions

Former People's National Party (PNP) candidate Rohan Silvera has denied being a player in the cash-for-gold trade.

The police on Thursday listed Silvera among 25 persons they claim have ties to criminal gangs.

However, Silvera, who the police said is a member of the notorious Clansman gang, which operates out of Spanish Town, St Catherine, has denied being a member of a gang.

Silvera has also denied any involvement in the cash-for-gold racket, for which the police claim he is the mastermind.

"Me don't even trade inna gold, much less fi be a mastermind," Silvera said.

He told The Gleaner that he has made arrangements, through his attorney, Linton Walters, to go in for an interview on Monday.

PNP General Secretary Peter Bunting said Silvera has not played an active role in the party since he was beaten for the Central St Catherine seat by the Jamaica Labour Party's Olivia Grange in the 2007 general election.

Meanwhile, Sandra 'Sandy' Coke - sister of accused drug kingpin Christopher 'Dudus' Coke - was taken to the police by the Reverend Al Miller. Earlier this week, Miller took Leighton 'Livity' Coke, a brother, into custody, after the police appealed for him to surrender.
