Nine arrested in Kirkland Heights as operations continue
Nine suspects were rounded up at premises in Kirkland Heights, Red Hills, St. Andrew in the special police/military operation that lasted for several hours Sunday.
The massive operation was carried out in search of Christopher "Dudus" Coke days after the security forces combed the area in search of the Tivoli Gardens strongman.
According to the police, two of the nine persons are known to be very close to the West Kingston fugitive.
Sunday's operation comprised soldiers from the Jamaica Defense Force and police officers drawn from several formations including Kingfish and the Organised Crime Investigation Division.
Senior detectives will interrogate the nine, all of whom are from West Kingston addresses.
Police personnel and military troops have been combing Kirkland Heights since last week as they continue on their quest to execute an arrest warrant on Christopher "Dudus" Coke.
During the initial operation, Keith Clarke, the brother of former Government Minister Claude Clarke was shot dead in what investigators say was a case of mistaken identity.
The JDF has confirmed that four soldiers were shot and injured in that incident.
The security forces were reportedly engaged in a fire fight with men in a house said to be owned by Coke.
Head of the Crime Portfolio of the Jamaica Constabulary Force, Acting Deputy Commissioner Glenmore Hinds, told a press conference at Jamaica House last week that the security forces are engaged in co-ordinated efforts across the island to nab Mr. Coke.
And, as the police and military continue its operation in sections of Western Kingston, a woman was arrested on Saturday night after her home was search and an AK-47 riffle found.
The gun was found as the security forces conduct house to house searches in the Denham Town community.
In addition to the rifle, several rounds of ammunition were also found.
The woman, whose name has not yet been released, is expected to be charged soon.
It is understood that the woman's boyfriend was held in the operation in Tivoli Gardens on Monday and is still in police custody.
And, the number of guns seized in the ongoing operations in Western Kingston now stands at 36.
In a release issued on Sunday night the police said recent seizures upped the number from 33 to 36.
The police say the weapons were all handguns.
Meanwhile the amount of ammunition recovered is now at 9,241.
